Lesson 9 - Setting Up An Uncomplicated Firewall (UFW) on Ubuntu Server
Objective:
Setup a firewall on the Ubuntu Server to selectively allow specific port connections.Materials:
Chromebook, Ethernet Cable, Micro SD card w/ Ubuntu Linux 22.04 LTS Image, OLED Display, Raspberry Pi, USB-C Power SupplyIn this lesson, we are going to use Ubuntu’s Uncomplicated Firewall (UFW) to open specific ports on our Ubuntu server. A computer port is an integer number that a computer’s operating system connects to a specific service. Currently, we have no firewall activated, so technically all of our Raspberry Pi’s ports are accessible. This step will help with adding a layer of security and limiting the ports that are available when we connect with our Chromebooks.
In the video below, we’ll work on setting up Ubuntu’s UFW and blocking all network traffic with the exception of several rules we’ll create. These rules will open very specific ports that will run services that we will be using in the beginning part of this course
